About Us
Connecting with God
Why Outdoor Adventures and Initiatives?

We created opportunities to get outdoors for day, weekend, or week long outings because something special happens when you get away from the distractions of the world and into nature. Research affirms the benefits of spending time in nature. When it comes right down to it you benefit because you have a connection with God the Creator. See our page on Our Adventures for more information.

An Initiative is an interactive group activity with a goal. An Initiative almost always involves problem solving, as individuals and as a team. An Initiative helps individuals to recognize and exercise their gifts and how they contribute to a team/group and helps the group learn to work together while "playing together" to accomplish the goal of the initiative. See our page on the Initiative for more information.

Our Story
History of 23 Adventures
A few years ago a group of us who worked together in ministry with at-risk youth and their families were having dinner. As we talked, we dreamed of starting a new outdoor ministry.
It was the dream of a group of friends passionate about helping others, friends who wanted to work together, friends who understood the impact the outdoors has on people.

A seed was planted, and now that dream is being realized and it’s exciting, not only here at 23 Adventures, but in our friends’ lives as they continue to make a difference as counselors, mentors, officers, teachers, parents, and friends. Making a difference in other people’s lives – that’s really what it comes down to and what we hope to do at 23 Adventures. We hope that in some way we can be a part of impacting your life in a way that glorifies God.

In 2006 we started by working with a college women’s group. We continue working part-time with groups, adding 23 Adventures for Women in 2019.

23 Adventures = Psalm 23
As we thought about the adventures that we wanted to offer, we discovered a unique parallel with the verses of this psalm.

Having it as the name of our company reminds us of our purpose and hope that: as you participate in our adventures you will be reminded that the Lord is your Shepherd, you will find rest, be refreshed, and your soul restored; we hope you will know God is with you in whatever valley you are in or facing, recognize and experience His blessings, and ultimately, be assured you live in His house forever.

While our origin and faith is unabashedly Christian, we consider it a privilege (and responsibility) to conduct business with respect for your beliefs.
Our Director
Hi, I'm Tony Wormgoor
Director of 23 Adventures and the Initiative.

Growing up in Alberta I am an avid outdoorsman. I am dedicated to serving God through the use of Scripture-based outdoor ministry. When Jesus tells us to look at the birds and flowers because we are anxious, it is not to detach from reality, God is informing us that all of creation was designed to speak to us of His invisible qualities.

I spent 16 years working at a Northern Ontario wilderness camp for teens, where I was a wilderness trip guide and the executive camp director. For the past number of years I have been working with college students and running a leadership development business on the side. I have a Masters in Ministry and outdoor certifications.
